The last few months have been interesting to say the least. It’s been a while since our last update; so, I wanted to tell you what we have been doing.
Clean Albinos: About a month ago, we continued our partnership with Evolution Rattery and obtained 2 breeding pair of albinos verified clean of all infectious agents. After several anxious weeks awaiting babies, both mothers gave birth to two healthy litters in the last week. Both mamas and all babies are doing well. Any hour now, we should have “dirty” babies born to be fostered by a clean albino mother – although the window for the surrogacy is closing this go around. Please keep all your fingers and toes crossed that this theory of clearing litters from infectious agents does work.
Our Lines: Our first babies were born this week from the lines we are housing at Evolution Rattery. While it was surreal to say goodbye to everything we built up in the last almost 2 years, it feels good to know that at this point, our work hasn’t been in vain.
Adoptions: Oak Grove will continue to be temporarily closed for adoptions; however, as we go through this cross-fostering project, a tremendous surplus of rats will be produced. Please keep a look out at Evolution Rattery for anything we collectively have to offer. While those rats aren’t known to be RBF free, all adopters will have to sign a health waiver and testing will be offered at the adopter’s expense. We know many of you have been very willing to help us rehome our colonies — taking on the risk.
Keep an eye out on this space and on Facebook for more updates….
