Mama’s Milk Oatmeal
Mama’s Milk Oatmeal
This recipe is a go-to when our mamas give birth. It helps keep them bulked up. The fennel seed assists in lactation. Since it’s full of healthy fats and carbs, it is a GREAT supplemental food to bulk up sick and ailing rats or for a once or twice a month treat for your fur babies.
- 3 cups water
- 1 tbsp fennel seeds ((Traditional Medicine’s Mother’s Milk Tea will work))
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tsp molasses
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 cup rolled oats ((any non-instant oatmeal will work))
- 1/4 cup rice ((any non-instant rice will work))
Add 2 of the 3 cups of water into a pot with the fennel seeds and bring to a boil on medium-high heat for 30 min. If you are using Mother’s Milk tea bags instead of fennel seeds, empty the contents of 2 bags into the water.
After mixture has steeped for 30 minutes, add the last cup of water and bring back to a boil.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and add the coconut oil, molasses, and peanut butter. Stir until all are well incorporated in the tea.
Finally, add the oats and rice. Cook on low heat and stir occasionally until all the liquid has been absorbed by the grains.
Excess can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
