Mama’s Milk Oatmeal

Mama’s Milk Oatmeal

Mama’s Milk Oatmeal

This recipe is a go-to when our mamas give birth. It helps keep them bulked up. The fennel seed assists in lactation. Since it’s full of healthy fats and carbs, it is a GREAT supplemental food to bulk up sick and ailing rats or for a once or twice a month treat for your fur babies.

Servings 8 rats

  • Pot
  • Measuring Cups/Spoons

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tbsp fennel seeds (Traditional Medicine’s Mother’s Milk Tea will work)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp molasses
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 cup rolled oats (any non-instant oatmeal will work)
  • 1/4 cup rice (any non-instant rice will work)

  • Add the water to a pot with the fennel seeds and bring to a boil on medium heat for 30 min. If you are using Mother’s Milk tea bags instead of fennel seeds, empty the contents of 2 bags into the water.
  • After mixture has steeped for 30 minutes, reduce the heat to low and add the coconut oil, molasses, and peanut butter. Stir until all are well incorporated in the tea.
  • Finally, add the oats and rice. Cook on low heat and stir occasionally until all the liquid has been absorbed by the grains.

Servings should be about 3-4 ounces per adult rat. Excess can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
