Now that we know Oak Grove has tested positive for the bacteria that causes Rat Bite Fever, we want your opinion. Many in the rat community have debated whether or not adopting rats out after a known positive RBF test result is ethical. Are rats different from other pets — all that come with their own zoonotic agents that can infect their pet parents? Should the breeder be held accountable if an adopter gets sick? Should the adopter accept the risks involved with owning rats? Should the rattery close permanently if they test positive. These are the questions we hope to answer in the coming days. Your responses, as adopters, will help guide us.
